Sarah Hardman

Sarah is an artist and  blogger. She lives in a small cottage in the Lancashire Pennines with her partner and little boy. Her passions include painting and drawing, printmaking, photography and reading. She enjoys following the principles of living simply: shopping locally, eating seasonally and finding pleasure in life’s little details. She’s also a bit of a magpie and can’t resist rescuing things which look like they have a story…

A few questions about nice things...

Who do you most admire?

Anyone who inspires me enough to try what they do: Nigel Slater’s love of good, simple food makes me want to cook; Angie Lewin’s interpretations of nature get me feeling creative… And Annie Spatt’s photography is beautiful.

What are your favourite possessions?

An old typewriter given to me by my mum; my vintage Anne of Green Gables books; my camera (and photos); and an antique trunk which currently houses my shoes.

Tell us about your perfect day or weekend...

My perfect day would begin with a lie-in and a breakfast of buttery croissants, and end under a cosy feather quilt. We’d be staying in a quirky B&B in the Lakes or the Yorkshire Dales, and the day would involve a long walk somewhere wild and open, a hearty lunch in a friendly pub and a bottle of something sparkling in the evening.

Oh, and my little boy would behave impeccably for the whole weekend!

What makes you happiest?

My family and friends – especially my fiancé Jay and son Joe; pottering; reading; a hot bath; breakfast outdoors; listening to the rain when I’m in bed; the smell of baking; trips away (and then coming home); flowers in the house; autumn.

What would you like to do in the future?

I’d love to live somewhere off the beaten track, be self-sufficient and surrounded by nature. Perhaps run a B&B with a gallery attached…
